Sustainable Agriculture
CWS is promoting sustainable agricultural practices such as System of Rice
Intensification (SRI), System of Crop Intensification (SCI), Integrated Farming System (IFS) and Non-
Pesticide management for improving food security. Seed banks were initiated to promote traditional
aromatic paddy and variety of millets in the local areas. Farmers were oriented to Trellis’s method of
farming, tuber crops and mulching. Post harvest support in the form of plastic crates is provided to farmers to check damage to vegetables during transportation to market. Farmer’s producer companies
were established to facilitate to improve marketing. A total of 4336 farmer families of 73 villages in 5 districts were reached through implementing partners
Shakti in Rayagada district, NIRMAN in Kandhamal district and BOJBP in Nayagarh district and 2 fellows
in Khurda district and Debagarh district.
Improving People Centered Good Governance
Capacity building activities are undertaken for women
PRI representatives on roles, responsibilities and on different schemes, Gram sabha & Palli sabha,
eligibility of beneficiaries for different schemes, revenue collection of Gram Panchayats (GP) and NRM
based activities. Capacity building of village level volunteers is done to monitor GP level activities. Micro-
plans and Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDP) are prepared in consultation with community
members, village leaders, volunteers and elected representatives. CWS work is spread across 86 villages of 8 Gram Panchayats in Koraput district and Cuttack District
covering 9557 households through implementing partners Gopabandhu Seba Parishad (GSP) and
Committee for Legal Aid to Poor (CLAP).
Towards Sustainable Livelihood and Food Security
Various livelihood options are promoted to improve
food and income security of poor families. Initiatives include demonstration of mushroom production,
Pot manure, Vermicompost, promoting kitchen garden, access to seedling and seed to farmers..
Orientation meetings and training organized on post harvesting management of crops to get better
market price.
Training is imparted to SHG members on product development, leadership development and record
maintenance, Farmers Producer Organisation is developed and operational in villages. Initiatives
undertaken are Appliqué marketing outlet, flower cultivation, mushroom, duckling, new bamboo craft
products. Promoted perennial plants like sweet potato, yam, tundri, drumstick, jackfruit and papaya
plantation. Women from Niyamgiri hills started reviving the species of Hill broom and Siali leaves.
CWS works through implementing partners AWARD in Sambalpur district, JJS in Puri district and SDS in
Rayagada district to improve sustainable livelihood among 2398 farmer families in 27 villages across 3
districts.
Reducing Malnutrition and Infant Mortality Rate Through Community Participation
The emphasis is on
reduction of malnutrition and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) through community participation, activating
service provider with special focus to promoting healthy behavioral practices among the vulnerable and
resource poor families. Service providers like Anganwadi, ASHA were sensitized on growth monitoring of
children.
CWS works through its implementing partners Palli Alok Pathagar (PAP) in Balangir district to reduce
malnutrition in mothers and children and IMR among 1641 families of 10 villages in Balangir district.
Improving Well being of Adolescent Girls and Women
The focus is on promoting healthy menstrual
behaviour among adolescent girls and women in the target community. Apart from health, awareness
and facilitation is provided regarding land rights to women and adolescent girls for income security.
CWS works through implementing partner, Jageswari Jubak Sangh (JJS) to reach out to 455 families in 3
villages in Puri district.
